(Draft -- You are looking at an early draft of this
topic. It has not yet been proofed, and it will now
doubt be massaged many times over for context, grammar,
and clarity)
Here is another
No-Brainer Do not abuse drugs.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and happen to know quite a
bit on the subject. While some people can get away with
achieving some minimal level of success for a short
period of time while abusing drugs they are mostly
overestimating the level of success they have achieved.
The bottom line is that there will be a point down the
road where it all blows up in their face and that most
will not recover after that has happened.
If you have a drug problem, then get help right now. If
you are taking any illegal drugs, taking prescribed
drugs without a prescription, or abusing prescribed
drugs with a prescription you have a drug problem. You
might be convinced that you are different from everyone
else in the world and can handle it but that will be
the drugs doing your thinking. It is unfortunate if you
have a drug problem, as this book is most likely a waste
for you. Most people with drug problems either cannot be
honest with themselves or they do not have the fortitude
it takes to stop. It will usually take something
terrible to happen or an intervention to stop them but
if you have what it takes to forever stop drugs right
now, and not tonight or tomorrow you might have a
chance at success. That is the challenge. If you can
stop right now, you most likely have what it takes to be
successful. If you cannot (for whatever reason you
justify it) then you are most likely heading in the
wrong direction and this book with be of little help.
If you have a family member or a friend you love with a
drug problem, pull your head out of the sand and
intervene before something terrible happens to them.
They might hate you initially but if their rehab is
successful they should owe you their life.
You should have a Zero-Tolerance policy with your
employees. In fairness, I give mine one shot to remedy
the problem, and if they cannot, then I will not keep
them. They are a liability to you and your business. For
critical jobs where there could be a risk of injury to
any person, a customer relationship, or a valuable
project you should look into random drug testing and
how you can stay within the law while protecting
yourself, the employee, and others.
