“CITY U.S.A.” is a very special diptych in two panels, each of which is 22″ X 30″. The image represents a trip across America. The size of the edition is 195 and the prints were created by intaglio on hand made paper with heavy embossing and metallic inlays.
While designed to be a two panel set, most of the 195 sets were sold split up. This would be the left panel.
Mikulas Kravjansky was born in Czechoslovakia in 1928. He studied at the Prague Academy of Muse Arts, focusing on art and scenography. As an internationally recognized artist, Kravjansky was the chairman of the art department of Czechoslovakia’s State Television and he created numerous designs for operas, ballets, and theatrical productions while he was there. He died in October 2020 and his art is sure to start skyrocket, especially his older pieces like this one. Look him up.
I bought this at an art auction in 1994 and it was displayed on a wall in a hall of our home. We are down sizing our life and selling what we don’t need. This is a very rare piece, and a search cannot find another left panel available anywhere. It was appraised some years back at $1000.
I will sell for $700. It will be carefully packed and shipped to the lower 48 (insured) for an additional $75 – However I might need 7-10 days to do so, as I split my time between two homes.
