The most rare of the Magnums. Dodge only made the first generation Magnum for two years – 1978 & 1979. It was initially made to replace the dying Charger as the B-Body muscle car for Dodge. However, Dodge got cold feet over the radical front end styling and hung onto the slow selling Charger for 1978, just in case. The Magnum was a big hit for 1978 and the Charger was dropped. Only about 5% of the Magnums were the GT model, which had heavy duty suspension, a engine tuned look dash and console plate, and big wheel flares.
As the 1979 Magnums started to trickle out there was an Arab Oil Embargo / Gas Crisis, with long gas lines for expensive gas – and the day you bought you gas was based on your license plate. This killed Magnum sales and the B-Body was forever dropped, to be replaced by the smaller J-Body (Stretched Aspen/Volare) Mirada.
The 1979s are far more rare than the 1978s, and the 1979 GTs are rarer than Hen’s teeth. My first new car was a Magnum, and I’ve owned over 20 since. This is the only GT I’ve ever seen in person!
I bought this car in 1999, from the broker of the original owner in Georgia. I replaced the 85mph speedometer with 67000 miles with a very expensive NOS Police Certified 140mph speedo.
This car is loaded with the E58 Police motor (360Ci 4bbl) with dual exhaust. The original plastic thermoquad carb was warped (as most do in time), and so I decided to go for Performance with an Edelbrock Performer Aluminum 4bbl Intake and 600cfm Performer carb. I also swapped the flaky stock ignition with a Mopar Performance ignition box and distributor. The car goes like a Raped Ape – well for a Disco Era Muscle Car. See below video I made today.
The paint and leather are in great condition. The headlights are clear. The intermittent wipers work, as does the power windows and locks. The car has leather wrapped steering, pedal dress up and floor console. The AC blew cold last month, but not as cold today with 96 degrees. I assume there might be a O-Ring leak as it was cold for about 4 months since I last recharged it. There are no chips in the glass or cracks in the dash. The photos speaks for the car. It is most likely the very best GT left on Earth. I wouldn’t think twice of driving this car cross country.
I love this car, and the only reason I’m selling is that in my mid-60s, it’s time to downsize my life. I have 31 cars and need to sell about 3/4 of them. This car is a rare time capsule and well worth the FIRM PRICE OF:
GT option package that added front fender medallions, silver GT logos, wheel lips, color-keyed fender flares, heavy-duty 15-inch by 7-inch extra-wide GT Rallye wheels, charcoal astratone wheels painted with a bright center dome, lug nuts and deep-dish trim rings, GR60x15 white-letter Goodyear aramid tires and a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel (a 2-spoke wheel if the tilt option was ordered at no extra cost). The GT’s Firm Feel suspension included heavy-duty torsion bars, heavy-duty anti-sway bars front and rear, heavy-duty shock absorbers with special valving and heavy-duty rear springs. The special Firm-Feel power steering system and special engine-turned instrument Rallye dash panel and crash pad applique included matching console trim with the console. There were only 1674 Magnum GTs produced in 1979
This is a Uber-rare 195 hp/280 lb-ft E58 360 4-bbl Police motor car with a high performance non-lockup 727 Torqueflite transmission and 9.25″ rear axle. This was the most powerful engine you could get in a Dodge car in 1979, and was the engine used in the 79 Little Red Express truck.
I’ve owned this car for over 15 years and taken very good care of it. It has less than 61,000 miles on it. I replaced the 85mph speedometer at 60,400 miles with a NOS Police Certified 140mph speedometer – and put less than 500 miles on the car since. I have the original speedo in a box somewhere in the shed.
I replaced the leaky and restrictive Thermoquad and cast iron intake with a Edelbrock RPM intake and a Edelbrock Performer 650CFM Performer with e/choke and AC idle options. I replaced the troublesome air cleaner mounted ignition with a Mopar Performance electronic ignition conversion kit. The car is both quicker and faster than stock — but I should still have the old parts in a box in my shed.
This car is rust-free, always garaged, and never been farther north than Atlanta, Ga.

This is maybe the best equip and nicest 79 (far more rare than the 1978 GT and 20 more hp in the 1978 E58) GT available. The car was just completely gone completely through and anything needing to be addressed was. Fly in and drive back to Alaska with confidence.

Not all Stacker trailers are created equal!
I’m selling a highly optioned 30′ Aluminum Stacker Race Trailer that I had custom built by Intech Trailers about 4 years ago. It will cost about $100K to have this exact trailer made. Features, in no particular order, include:
- All aluminum construction for great weight savings and better road stability at high speeds. Previously, I had an all steel Stacker trailer the same size, but with far fewer options on 16″ G-Rated Goodyear tires. It weighed 22,500 pounds loaded and I’d average 10 blowouts a year. I had this trailer built to my very high specifications and loaded with the same cars, golf cart, tools, and far more parts & supplies — it weighs only 14,200 pounds. I barely know it’s behind my bus type motorhome.
- I added 1′ increased interior height for 60’s full size cars, but still a legal 13′ 2″ — and goes under the 13.6 low bridges.
- This trailer is set up for two LARGE drag cars. We load a 65 Dodge Coronet and a 60 Plymouth Station Wagon, with a golf cart having a roof – and we travel cross county with ease.
- Triple 7,000 pound spread axles with high speed, H-Load rated Goodyear tires. I’ve NEVER had a flat and often travel at 75mph on Texas highways.
- Optional .050 Aluminum skin thickness for a far better look over .040. It also avoids warping in extreme hot or cold weather and dents from hail.
- Wrapped last year in Antique Bronze. Was previously blue.
- The Roof is heavy duty braced to walk on observation.
- The attic is heavy duty braced to transport a golf cart
- Attic starts 6’5″ from floor for tall people to stand upright
- Full width rear door goes wall to wall to make it easier to load wide cars
- Aircraft cargo strips and Heavy Duty D-Rings
- Floor made of Extruded Aluminum
- Tongue extended 1′ for tighter turns and backing with out damage to trailer or towing vehicle
- Tongue box to house jack hydraulics (instead of taking up a floor cabinet) plus two storage compartments. I have two pneumatic hydraulic jacks and an impact wrench with air for on one side and trailer’s 35 amp shore line on the other side.
- Lift pump in floor compartment
- Dove tail rear for easy loading of low cars and low headers. I’ve never hung a car up loading in trailer or on lift.
- Spare tire mount with new H-Load Rated 17.5″ A Spare tire on front of trailer. A flat (NEVER HAD ON ON THIS TRAILER) can be quickly changed without going into the trailer.
- All LED lights. Interior, Loading, Pit, Cabinet, under lift lights are bright low watt DC LEDs.
- All Driving lights are LED.
- There are 6 Deep Cycle batteries in floor compartment, which can power the trailer (lights, lift, jack) for better than a week in the pits and away from shore power.
- Completely wired for 35 AMP shore power service that automatically powers the numerous 120V outlets and heavy duty battery charger. Circuit breaker box, battery charger and master cutoff switch in street-side upper compartment.
- All aluminum lift with three removable center sections — to service the underside of the race car.
- Two more in-floor spare tire compartments, one containing a new matching spare tire (never on ground) and the other supplies.
- Wall fender compartments with shelving on street side.
- In floor winch compartment with wired 12,000 pound electric winch. Also has a slide in pulley for loading the bottom car, while the lift has a pulley mounted to load the top car.
- Full width upper/lower cabinets with stainless steel work bench and full length closet in front of the trailer.
- Double side doors that open wide enough to drive a Golf-Cart in.

I’ve pulled this stacker all over the country with a 43′ motorhome with a 450hp Cummins. It tracks real well behind the coach and I pass trucks going up the mountains. My deal is that I’ll be ordering a 45′ Coach and as such, I need to step down to a 30′ stacker to stay legal. This trailer was built to last for decades with good care and annual axle greasing.
My opinion is that Intech makes the very best aluminum trailers, and they have not experienced the quality/welding problems racers have experienced with trailers like ATC. They do cost more — but are worth it. A trailer with all of these important options (extra height, 17.5 H-Load (and 86 MPH Speed) Rated wheels and tires including two spares, thick skin, extra roof and attic bracing…) will cost you around $100K to order. This trailer is ready to go. will last you years. I’ll sell for $60K. I believe it is a 2015.

Frankly I haven’t been doing a good job with promoting the site, soliciting advertisers, adding race dates to the calendar or promoting the Classified Ad section. It was once a very active forum for those interested in Nostalgia Super Stock Drag Racing. This might be a good opportunity to for a NSS Group, vendor of a product or service of interest to NSS Racers, or a computer Geek willing to build the site and sell banner ads.
I feel the the domain name, membership and Vbulletin license is worth more than $1000 as-is, Where-is – but I’ll accept the $1000. Any of my help or domain hosting would be extra. I created a Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/nssracing/ that appears to be taking up a lot of the slack for NSS Racing — although a Vbulletin board is far more efficient with regards to categorizing posts by topic, calendars, searching, and income opportunity with banner pay for view or pay for click ads.
Maybe the Nicest Original Magnum GT left. Taken out of 20 year storage and completely gone through.
Magnum GTs are Very Rare. I’ve owned 9 Magnums, have run MoparStyle.com for 20 years, and MagnumGT.com for for 21 years, and this is the ONLY GT I’ve ever seen in the flesh. What makes this car even more rare is that if you look at the Vin, the fifth digit is a L. That’s the E58 360ci/4BBL High Performance Cop Motor. That’s the most powerful motor you could get in a Mopar car in 1979. I bought this car because of it’s extreme rarity.
The paint is original, the chrome is original, and the drive_train is original. The original leather seats have been re-dyed in the original color. The car is rust-free, only living in Georgia and Texas. There are no cracks in the dash or console, rare for a late 70s car. The “GT” Wheel Flare are in Excellent original condition.

The original cast Iron intake and warped Thermoquad was replaced with an Edelbrock Performer Aluminum Intake and Edelbrock 650cfm carb. The problematic air cleaner mounted ignition module was replaced with a Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition box and distributor – so the car has a few more ponies than Mother Mopar had originally given him. Yes, this GT is a gentleman. The XE is a lady.
This Magnum GT Runs, Drives, Steers, Brakes and Rides great. It is a very comfortable car to drive. While I’m not big on driving a 40-year-old car cross country – I’d probably chance it in this car. You should be able to Fly in and drive home – but bring your AAA card just in case. I just sold an 1981 Imperial with almost an Identical background, and the buyer flew in from North Carolina and took a shuttle to my shop. He spent the next couple of weeks visiting old friends in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia. He called a few weeks later telling me what a great time he had and that the car performed flawlessly, except for a flat in Louisiana.
60,000 Original Miles
I was able to buy a Very Rare NOS Police Certified 140MPH (just try to find one under $3000) to replace the 1979 Mandated 85MPH Speedometer.
Weeks have been spent going through this car to get it ready to deliver decades of service to its next owner. I love this car, but the reason I’m selling it is I’m now in my mid-60s and have a collection of 31 cars. I’m starting to downsize my life and most all of the toys have to go. If you like the Magnum GTs, you will never have another chance to own a better one. My first brand new car was a 1978 Magnum XE. They were very controversial back then, because of the Cord Style front end and clear flip-up headlight covers. To me, it was the only real bright spot in the Dark Disco Ages. Well that and I married my wife in 1979.

As a young adult with dreams of great financial success, I read Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich”. One of the big points of the book is to have a huge goal, which is unattainable by most, and to reward yourself hugely for obtaining it. You then put a visual reminder of the reward somewhere that you are constantly reminded of the goal and your reward.
In 1996 I set another such a goal, which was the second big goal I’d set and promised myself a big reward for hitting. In June 1998, I achieved that goal, and my reward had been a new Viper GTS. I Immediately went to the Dodge dealer and ordered a black with black interior with a stripe delete. Because of a strike causing a shortage of the front body work of the car, it took 13 months before I picked the car up.
I have put less than 4000 miles on the car since. The car looks and drives like brand new. 1999 was by far the very best year of the Viper. This car holds a lot of sentimental value to me. However, I’m now in my mid sixties, and in a mode of reducing the things I just don’t need. I have 31 cars, trucks and motorcycles; and I just don’t need near that many – so everything is for sale, some priced to move faster than others. This is the car I least want to sell, but I will for the right price. That price is $60K FIRM.

About 20 years ago I bought the domain name of OldHippie.com off the original owner of the domain. For years it was a very popular Vbulletin board, with many members discussing virtually every topic. In the last few years, I’ve not done a good job of doing the site justice with my time. Last month I closed the site.

I bought the car in 2003 and immediately dropped off with Ken Pressley at Hemityme Restorations. Ken (now retired) restored nothing but show winning Winged cars. At the time I also had a Petty Blue Superbird and a Green Daytona in line at Ken’s shop. There were a total 5 Superbirds ahead of this car for restoration, and I knew then it would be close to ten years before I got it back.
I liked this better than the Petty Blue V-Code 4-speed, so I decided I’d sell the Petty Blue and make this my driver. MAin reason was the rarity of this combination vs. the Petty Blue which was Hemi Orange until 1973 and the block being a factory replacement.
So I took a couple of liberties with this car to make it the fastest factory stock looking (to the average person — not you experts out there) Superbird. The original block was precision machined. The factory heads ported. The factory intake gasket match. The rotating billet stroker to 493CI. TTI Ceramic coated headers route exhaust gasses to 2.5″ factory appearing exhaust. The Radiator is aluminum painted black to fool the average eye. The clutch system is McLeod. All of this can be restored back to stock should you desire.
When the car was finished (better than ten years later), Ken took it for long ride to find and repair anything missed, detailed the car and I picked up to take back home to Texas. When home I drained the gas and put in a bubble — as my life had changed over the previous decade and I was no longer interested in having the car as a driver.
About four months ago I had someone claiming to be interested in buying — so I put in a couple of gallons of gas with stabilizer in the tank, changed the oil, rebuilt the front carb that leaked when I started. The prospective buyer liked the car — but not enough for us to come close to my price. As such I put back in the bubble and take out once a month to start — then back in.
Now I’m at the point in my life (mid-sixties) where I want to make life a little more simpler, and I’m selling most of my 31 car/truck/motorcycle collection. I feel certain that this car is the nicest Superbird available — and that the investment market on this car will skyrocket in the next recession as a hedge against cask and the stock market. Sadly, I’ll need to part company to this car and many others before then.

As a kid, I was sort of a fan of the 65-66 Marlin when it first came out. Like the Mustang being built on the compact Falcon, and the Barracuda being built on the compact Valiant, the Marlin was built on the compact Rouge. However, in 1967 that changed when the Marlin moved onto the full-size Ambassidor chassis. When I first saw a picture of the longer and lower Marlin, it instantly became my favorite car. Over the next 40 years, I attended hundreds of car shows and auctions, but never saw a 67 Marlin in the Wild. That’s just how rare and obscure they are.
For more years than I care to remember, I searched for a 67 Marlin in good enough condition to easily restore. About ten years ago I came across this one with a nice body and interior. It was in the collection of an older man with Stage Four cancer. The car hadn’t run in a long time, and had electrical issues. I bought the car with the Intention of restoring red/black with black interior. However, time slipped by and now I’m selling my collection – and this Marlin. All of the electrical was properly addressed, the ignition updated with a Pertronix distributor, the carb rebuilt, and the car has been completely gone through. A ton of work has been done on the car and now It runs and drives great.
